F.F.D.F. What's this you ask?
It's our family fun day fund.
This favorite jar of mine sits out collecting extra change and dollars thrown in here and there, which gets added up for a family fun day/night once a month.
Sometimes, it funds a night of bowling.
Sometimes, it funds a day of picnicking with friends or cousins we bring along.
Sometimes, it funds movie tickets or dinner.
Or sometimes, when the funds are a wee-bit on the small side, we'll buy all the goodies to make banana splits & sundaes.
Now, I realize that there are a lot of families that do this kind of stuff all the time, but when you're on a budget {like we are}-- trips to dairy queen, eating out at restaurants or a trip to the movie theater for a family of four can really put a kink in the budget, know what I mean?
So this little set-up we have...
It
works for us!

That's VERY cool! My husband has a smaller similar one, only it says "Golf Fund" lol
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! We don't have a jar, but we have a little crystal dish that we 'chunk' our change into...and then we raid it every now and then for a trip to Sonic's half-priced happy hour, or McDonalds for my 2 year old:-) I might have to upgrade to a bigger bowl now!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! We are trying to be more aware of where our money is going each month and cutting out some unnecessary trips for ice cream and dinners out. This would be such a fun way to plan some family fun with the money collected. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. I think more than anything it would get us to do more as a family. Just stopped by from SITS.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea! I started collecting loose change when my 2 year old was born. I mostly did it because it was a choking hazard, so I have been collecting the money with out any real purpose for its future use. I think I am going to add it up and then plan a fun family activity. I wonder if I could fund a weekend trip with 2 years of coins?
ReplyDeleteLove your sweet blog . . . your family is beautiful. I definitely need to begin a change jar -- thanks for the reminder. ;) Stopping by from SITS. Hope you have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea and the jar you have is perfect for saving for these types of outings.
ReplyDeleteTreats like that are rare for us too and I just love the idea of funding the treat with spare change. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. I'm in Michigan too - between Grand Rapids and Grand Haven.
ReplyDeleteWe do a version of your tip, that I plan to put on Works for me Wednesday. We save ours for a while for bigger expenses.
Super cute:)
ReplyDeleteOurs would have to have a latch on it, Lol!
I LOOOOOVE That idea! And I love the jar you keep it in!
ReplyDeleteWhat a Fabulous idea!!!
ReplyDeleteSometimes when its out of sight and out of mind it comes as a sweet surprise to know how much we can save!
