Toltec Wisdom

Toltec: Fact or Fiction?

Either way, I think that the belief you should live a life of awareness and understanding how we create our own perception to the world, is pretty powerful.

I've recently stumbled across this and thought I'd share. =)

Four Toltec principles...
{A.k.a. The Four Agreements.}

1. Be Impeccable with your Word: Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the Word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your Word in the direction of truth and love.

2. Don’t Take Anything Personally:
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

3. Don’t Make Assumptions:
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4. Always Do Your Best:
Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

I really need to practice the second principle. I'm always taking things personally. Always.

Why?

Not sure.

But I can tell you, my life would be much easier if I could let people's words and actions, just roll off my back, so to speak.

Oh, and I won't even get into the fourth practice of self-judgment. {chuckle}

What do you think? Do you take things personally, too?

Happy Friday & have a great weekend!

  3. I have a TERRIBLE problem with number 2 too. How very sad. I wish I could be stronger and have thicker skin. It is very much something I would like to work on!

  4. Umm... No wonder they are extinct (if they ever existed). Nobody could follow #2 (and, in some cases #3) and stay alive for long. Survival of the fittest requires to take something personally :)
