Depression cooking, that is. =)
I stumbled across this delightful, beautiful lady. One of the youtube commenter's called her a National Treasure- I couldn't agree more.
I just had to share her with you in case anyone else might enjoy watching her as much as I did.
I haven't heard of any of the dishes, but I didn't grow up on rations or bare cupboards, either.
I remember reading in a magazine, Reminisce- about a little girl during the depression, recalling watching men stand in line at a restaurant to get a cup of hot water {they gave them out for free} and they would mix in a packet of ketchup to the water to make a soup. They just did what they had to do...
Oh, Clara makes an Egg Drop soup, too. Check it out. I'm thinking of trying it.
Why not? :D
Have a great weekend!

Aw, that was sweet Jen! I hope I'm that spry when I'm her age! And her pasta looks good!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet lady. I like her dishes - pasta with anything sounds good to me. Her kitchen is quite retro too. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI will have to show my grandma this! She will love watching that!
ReplyDeleteThanks:)
That reminds me of poormans goulash, I have eaten a meal just like that, basically throw anything you got in a dish and add noodles or rice. Its interesting to hear about how things were for families back then, I have talked with my grandmother about it and how it affected their family and business...wow. Thanks for sharing, what a lovely lady!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great video. My favorite line from Clara was "The depression was hard."
ReplyDeleteI love her!
Hello ladies! I'm glad you all enjoyed watching Miss Clara do her thang! :D
ReplyDeleteI showed hubby last night and he thought she was the cutest. We ended up watching a few of her newest videos, too. =)
